Our Aura from a Vedic perspective

 What Is the Auric Field?

The auric field is composed of layers of energy that vibrate at different frequencies. These layers correspond to physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of your being. Together, they form a multi-dimensional “field” that interacts with your internal state and external environment.

Ancient systems like Ayurveda and Yoga describe this field in connection with the koshas, five sheaths or layers of existence, ranging from the physical body to the bliss body (anandamaya kosha). Modern energy healers often describe the auric field as encompassing seven layers, aligned with the chakras, each reflecting a specific aspect of your consciousness.

In Vedic philosophy, the koshas are described as five sheaths or layers that enclose the true self, or atman, much like layers of an onion. These koshas are considered subtle yet vital components of human existence, ranging from the physical to the transcendental. Each layer plays a distinct role in how we experience life, contributing to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. When the koshas are balanced, they allow us to connect more deeply with our essence, fostering a harmonious connection between body, mind, and spirit. Here’s an expanded look at the koshas and their relationship to the auric field:

1. Annamaya Kosha (The Physical Body)

This is the outermost sheath, often referred to as the food body, because it is sustained by the nourishment we take in. It corresponds to the tangible, material aspect of our being, including our bones, muscles, and organs. The physical body is the densest layer of the auric field and serves as the foundation for the subtler layers.

When the annamaya kosha is healthy, it radiates vitality, contributing to a strong and balanced auric field. Practices such as mindful eating, yoga asanas, and physical exercise nurture this layer, ensuring the body is an effective vessel for higher energies.

2. Pranamaya Kosha (The Energy Body)

The second sheath is the energy body, which governs the flow of prana (life force) throughout the system. This kosha corresponds to the breath and energy pathways (nadis) and includes the chakras, which regulate the flow of energy in specific areas of the body and auric field.

The pranamaya kosha acts as the bridge between the physical and subtle layers, influencing both physical health and mental clarity. Breathwork (pranayama) and practices like Reiki or Qi Gong strengthen this kosha, ensuring that energy flows freely, keeping the auric field vibrant and protective.

3. Manomaya Kosha (The Mental-Emotional Body)

This is the sheath of the mind and emotions, responsible for thoughts, feelings, and sensory perceptions. It reflects our subconscious patterns, belief systems, and emotional states.

The manomaya kosha shapes how we perceive and react to the world. A cluttered or disturbed mental-emotional body can weaken the auric field, making us more susceptible to negative energies. Meditation, affirmations, and mindful awareness practices help clear and balance this kosha, creating emotional resilience and a calm, steady mind.

4. Vijnanamaya Kosha (The Wisdom Body)

The fourth sheath is the wisdom or intuitive body. It is the layer of higher intelligence, discernment, and inner knowing, often associated with our connection to universal truths. This kosha guides decision-making and aligns us with our deeper purpose.

A clear and strong vijnanamaya kosha sharpens intuition and fosters spiritual insight. Practices such as meditation, self-reflection, and studying spiritual texts nurture this layer. When balanced, it enhances the auric field’s capacity to resonate with higher frequencies, increasing our alignment with the divine.

5. Anandamaya Kosha (The Bliss Body)

The innermost sheath is the bliss body, which is closest to the true self (atman). It is a state of pure joy, peace, and connection to the divine, beyond the mind and ego. This kosha is not tied to external circumstances; rather, it is the natural state of the soul when all other layers are balanced and aligned.

The anandamaya kosha radiates the highest vibration within the auric field, representing spiritual liberation and unity with the cosmos. Deep meditation, acts of unconditional love, and transcendental experiences activate this layer, allowing one to access profound states of bliss and wholeness.

The Koshas and the Auric Field

Each kosha interacts with the others, contributing to the overall health and balance of the auric field. The physical body provides the base; the energy body fuels vitality; the mental-emotional body shapes perception; the wisdom body aligns us with higher truths; and the bliss body connects us to the divine.

When all koshas are in harmony, the auric field becomes a radiant, protective, and magnetic force. It reflects the interconnected nature of our existence, acting as a bridge between our inner essence and the external world.
